Immediately lift the emergency martial law following the National Assembly’s rejection
The National Assembly rejected President Yoon Seok-yeol’s unconstitutional and illegal emergency martial law at dawn today (December 4) with all 190 members present and in favor. According to the Constitution, Yoon Seok-yeol must immediately lift emergency martial law.
The ruling and opposition parties in the National Assembly jointly demanded the lifting of the emergency martial law just two and a half hours after it was declared because it is clear that this martial law declaration violated the Constitution and the law. The martial law declaration, which did not even go through the Cabinet meeting, is null and void.
Yoon Seok-yeol’s declaration of an emergency martial law and his attempt to seize the National Assembly to suspend the functions of the National Assembly by mobilizing soldiers is an unacceptable military rebellion and an act tantamount to civil war. The National Assembly should immediately hold them accountable for their constitutional and criminal liability.
Yoon Seok-yeol, who has undermined the democracy and constitutional order of the Republic of Korea in order to protect his own power, is no longer the President of the Republic of Korea. Resign immediately. The People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy will act with the citizens to protect democracy in the Republic of Korea.
