[Statement] Honoring the lives lost in the airplane crash

Today (December 29), a Jeju Air passenger plane carrying 181 people crashed on landing at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, South Korea, reportedly causing many casualties. We are deeply saddened by the tragedy and extend our sincere sympathies to the bereaved families, as well as to those who are grieving and waiting for the injured.

The death toll continues to rise, as this was an aircraft crash with many passengers on board. We hope that the government will do everything in its best to rescue them quickly. The acting president Choi Sang-mok and the government must do everything in their power to ensure that the control tower is able to fulfill its role in responding to and recovering from the tragedy, including rescuing survivors, treating the injured, and recovering victims. Government authorities and airlines must ensure that victims and their families receive the protection and support they need.

Once again, PSPD would like to express our sincere condolences to those who lost their lives in this crash and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
