[Statement] We strongly condemn Israel’s the resumption of deadly attacks on the Gaza Strip
Israel must immediately cease its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire that had been continuing precariously has ended due to Israel’s unilateral breach. Israel resumed massive airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on the 18th (local time). The deadly airstrikes, which took place in the middle of the night without any prior warning, are leaving residents who were unable to evacuate at the mercy of the situation. More than 200 people have died so far, and the death toll is increasing in real time. Many residents are buried in buildings that collapsed due to the bombing, and many of them are women and children. We strongly condemn Israel’s unilateral breach of the ceasefire and the resumption of airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, and we urge Israel to immediately stop the attacks.
Israel said it would resume strikes, claiming that Hamas had rejected a proposal for the release of hostages and a truce. However, Israel and the United States have been pressuring for an extension of the first phase of the ceasefire, which involves the release of only additional hostages, apart from the “phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip” that was initially agreed upon by both Israel and Hamas. On the 2nd, the day after the end of the first ceasefire, they completely suspended the delivery of food, fuel, medicine and other supplies to the Gaza Strip, and on the 9th, they completely cut off the electricity and water supply, pushing for an extension of the first ceasefire by putting the residents of the Gaza Strip in an extreme situation. Moreover, Israel continued to bomb the Gaza Strip even during the first stage of the ceasefire, and continued its attacks on the West Bank, causing more than 40,000 people to lose their homes and flee.
The international community must strongly condemn Israel for committing war crimes in complete disregard of international law and press Israel to implement the ceasefire agreement and engage in negotiations instead of force. Israel and the United States should be held accountable for war crimes and all means should be used to stop Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip. Too many people have already been sacrificed. The international community must not become an unspoken accomplice to Israel’s illegal acts. It must fulfill its obligations as a member state to implement the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly in September last year to end Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories within 12 months.
